Training Information

This is not a learn-to-shoot class. It is a dynamic 8-hour class that requires prolonged standing, kneeling, and movement throughout the day.

Participants will learn safety, proper manipulation, load selection, reloading techniques, malfunction clearance, and deployment options. The course also covers patterning, movement, and cover and concealment, to name a few.

This course is designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of shotguns in personal defense. With the right load at the correct range, shotguns can deliver high performance and extreme effectiveness at multiple distances, up to 70+ yards.

How Effective Are Shotguns:

(To paraphrase a soldier from the British SAS, referencing his experience in Iraq:)

“The 5.56 pokes holes, the .308 blows chunks off, but shotguns disassemble people.”

At appropriate ranges, there really is no more effective firearm for making bad guys immediately stop what they’re doing. The 00-buck load sends nine .33-caliber pellets downrange at roughly the speed of a 9mm handgun bullet. Regarding “terminal performance,” a 12-gauge buckshot load is the standard.

Shotguns can deliver a large number of projectiles simultaneously, making them the most effective short-range weapon. Their hit probability is twice as great as that of an assault rifle (3-round burst); the shotgun's multiple projectiles increase the likelihood of one or more peripheral wounds, creating extremely effective stopping power.

Ammunition Requirements:

200 birdshot | 50 buckshot | 25 rifled slugs.
Optimally, these are 2 3/4″ shells that will run in your shotgun when it is dirty. If you have an autoloader, please ensure it will run everything you bring. For autoloaders, we recommend high-velocity birdshot rated at 1300fps
